  • Buick was a major player in the automotive industry from the earliest times. The company managed to rank in the top 5 for production every year from 1907, just four-years after its founding, through 1927.  On November 1, 1927, the company produced their two- millionth car.

    The 1927 Buick Master Six series offered a choice of 11 different body styles. Most of these body styles were carryovers from 1926 and derived from the 1925 cars. Of all the options, the one least chosen by purchasers was the DeLuxe Sport Touring.  While the price of this body fell right in the middle of Buickโ€™s price range, buyers preferred the comfort of enclosed bodies. This was a trend that started in 1925, the first year that closed bodies outsold open ones.

    The Master series became the top of the line offering from Buick in 1925 and continued through the 1928 model year. It was distinguished from the base Standard Six by larger displacement engines and longer wheelbases. But, the Master series also got a host of standard features including motometers, scuff plates, clock, cigarette lighter and heater all included in the base price. It was also the one of the first GM products to share a platform with another corporate brand, in this case, the Oldsmobile model 30 shared bodies, wheelbase and engine displacement.

    The overhead valve, inline-six engine produced 75 horsepower, enough to propel the 3,735 pound car along comfortably. Improvements to the engine for โ€˜27 included new motor mounts, counterbalanced crankshaft, and torsional balancer all to reduce vibration and harshness.  Stopping power came from mechanical  four-wheel drum brakes.
