  • Terraplane was a brand manufactured by Hudson, but it did not display the Hudson name until 1937. Conceived as a lighter, lower cost alternative to Hudson, when introduced in 1932, the Terraplane was largely responsible for helping Hudson weather the Depression. Yet, many executives at Hudson despised the brand because it outsold Hudson including in 1937, the final year of its stand alone branding.

For 1937, Terraplane came in two variations, the Deluxe with no vent windows and a single tail light and the Super with dual tail lights, vent windows and front fender medallions. All Terraplanes were powered by a six-cylinder engine.

The Terraplane shared bodies with Hudson but sat on a 5” shorter wheelbase. The length was adjusted in the front end sheetmetal,  the Terraplane got a different grille, shorter hood and fenders.

Terraplane delivered more than 4 times the number of cars to dealers as parent Hudson did in 1937.
